How Can Acupuncture Help My Bell's Palsy?

If you or a loved one has recently been diagnosed with Bell’s palsy, you know how sudden and unsettling it can be. At A Balanced You Acupuncture & Wellness Center, we understand your concerns. We’re here to walk beside you with a natural, supportive approach designed to help your body heal. We have done this before for other sufferers of Bell’s Palsy.

How Can Acupuncture Help My Bell's Palsy?

Think of the facial nerve affected by Bell's palsy as being swollen and compressed. Acupuncture works in several gentle ways to help:

  • Reduces Swelling: The needles encourage your body to release its own natural anti-inflammatory chemicals. This helps calm the inflammation pressing on your nerves.
  • Increases Healing Blood Flow: Treatment boosts circulation to your face, delivering more oxygen and nutrients that the injured nerve needs to repair itself.
  • Wakes Up the Nerves and Muscles: The gentle stimulation helps your facial nerves and muscles "wake up," which can help prevent weakness and improve movement.
  • Provides Natural Pain Relief: For any discomfort or headaches you might feel, acupuncture is excellent at easing pain naturally.

In our view at A Balanced You, health is about balance. We see Bell’s palsy as a sign that the body’s natural energy has been knocked off balance. Our goal is to help your body find balance and harmony again, to support its incredible healing ability.

What Can I Expect During My Visit?

Your journey with us starts with compassion and listening.

  1. Your First Visit: We’ll discuss your health history, your specific symptoms, and your goals. We want to understand you as a whole person, not just a symptom.
  2. A Personalized Plan: Based on what we learn, we’ll create a treatment plan just for you.
  3. During the treatment some acupuncture points on your face will be needled with thin hair-like needles. Points will also be done on other areas of your body, including your hands, arms, legs and feet. These points help your entire body to participate and support the healing process.
  4. You’ll relax comfortably on a warm table as the hair-thin needles are gently placed. The treatments are very relaxing, and most people even take a nap.
  5. Your Path to Wellness: For the best results, we recommend starting with treatments 2-3 sessions a week, which will be determined during your initial evaluation and depending on the damage caused by the condition. The closer the treatments are the faster the results may be. As you improve, the treatments are then spaced out.
  6. We take the extra step to add a Home Facial exercise program with demonstration and proper instructions. This helps with assisting and stimulating the nerves and muscles in the face. We’ll be with you every step of the way, celebrating your progress.

We Believe in Teamwork for Your Health

We are proud to complement your medical care, not replace it.

We strongly believe in a team approach. The steroids or antiviral medications your medical doctor prescribes are important for reducing initial inflammation. Acupuncture adds another powerful layer of support to help speed up your recovery and improve your chances of a full return to normal functions.

We see ourselves as part of your healthcare team, working together for your best possible outcome.
