Smiling and laughter has positive effects on the body

During this time of COVID 19 its sometimes difficult to find things to smile about or to laugh at, however, it’s of great importance to seek out reasons for smiles and laughter today as difficult as it may sometime seem.
Did you know that smiling and laughter has positive effects on the body?                                                              Here are 5 great reason why laughter should be a part of your daily self -care routine:

1. Laughter reduces the stress hormones such as, Cortisol, Epinephrine (Adrenaline) and Dopamine, while at the same time increase the positive hormones that enhance health such as endorphins.

2. Laughter helps the immune system by increasing the number of antibody producing T-cells. T-Cells are cells that help to boost the immune system, making it stronger and better able to fight off illnesses, as well as reducing the physical effects of stress on the body.

3. Laughter offers social benefits by connecting us to others just as smiling and the act of kindness does. Even virtually, laughter can still be contagious. The more you find to laugh about the more others will be invited to laugh and connect as well. Laughter is the happy vibe that can lift the mood and the spirit of others around you, while at the same time creating social connections and interactions which we are so deprived of these days.

4. Laughter is a distractor from negative emotions such as stress, anger, and guilt. The more time spent on laughter is the less time spent on anger. It is impossible for the brain to focus on both emotions at the same moment, so choose wisely and have a good laugh!

5. A Good belly laugh provides a great workout, not only for the heart, diaphragm but also contracts the muscles of the face, shoulders, abdominals and leaves the body feeling more relaxed afterwards.

Tips:
Find some humor by watching comedy shows on TV, or watching SNL (Saturday Night Live), Standup comedies, or just reading something funny can all offer plenty to laugh about.
Have a friends or family contest to see who has the best jokes, this can now be done virtually if needed.
